Unprecedented video: Head of PM arrested acted against scammers – 01/30/2023 – Power

Unpublished footage from the congressional security camera circuit shows the former commander of the Military Police of the Federal District Fábio Augusto Vieira acting to contain the coup demonstrators who tried to invade and destroy the building on January 8th.

Vieira has been in prison, by determination of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), since January 10 for alleged omission in relation to the episode. He had already been removed from office by the intervenor in public security in the Federal District, Ricardo Cappelli.

The former head of the PM was responsible for commanding the corporation on the day that supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) attacked the buildings of Congress, the Planalto Palace and the STF.

In the images of the Congress, obtained by SheetVieira is dressed in the uniform of the PM and a yellow vest.

At 2:43 pm on Sunday, he appears outside the Congress, next to the cloakroom, running after a group of six demonstrators. He was accompanied by three PM agents.

He disappears from the images and, a minute later, he returns accompanied only by a policeman walking in the opposite direction – it is possible to see other demonstrators running in the background.

Two minutes later, the images show that there is a body confrontation between a large number of scammers and PMs.

The protesters, who were in greater numbers, appear throwing traffic cones at the agents and the glass on the building’s facade, while the PMs try to contain their entry into the place. One of the scammers is seen in the video carrying a railing.

Afterwards, at 2:49 pm, it is possible to identify Vieira in the melee with the demonstrators. He appears talking and gesturing with the scammers to guide them away from the building.

The former commander of the DF PM had part of his performance described in a report prepared by the intervenor Ricardo Cappelli, released this week.

In the text, Cappelli states that the PM of the DF did not draw up an operational plan to contain the coup plotters.

Colonel Jorge Eduardo Naime Barreto, former head of the PMDF’s Operational Department, was responsible for carrying out the planning. He was off duty the day of the attacks.

The interventor says in the report that Vieira acted directly during the acts, making calls and requesting reinforcement in policing — but that he “lost the ability to lead his direct subordinates”.

“Although he was personally operating in the field, the evidence indicates that the colonel lost the ability to lead his direct subordinates, as his requests for reinforcement were neither considered nor responded to promptly,” says Capelli.

The report also indicates that the PM was one of those “wounded in direct combat” in the attacks on the headquarters of the Supreme Court.

“It was possible to verify that the General Commander of the Military Police of the Federal District was in the field acting operationally (…), who even figured among the military police officers injured in the direct combat against the attacks on the Federal Supreme Court.”

The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), members of the Federal Police and the Judiciary have credited the PM of the DF with the responsibility for the invasion of the Praça dos Três Poderes, after timid action by the security forces to detain the coup leaders that day.

The then Public Security Secretary of the DF, former Minister of Justice in the Bolsonaro government, Anderson Torres, was also arrested by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF.

In a statement to the Federal Police, four days after the coup acts, the former PM commander declared that he did not know for sure how many agents participated in policing before the invasion of the buildings.

He also stated that the undersecretary of intelligence had undergone a change at the beginning of the year, with the change in command of the Secretariat of Public Security, but that he could not say exactly how this information flowed.

Vieira also told the PF in his statement that he had met the PM’s Director of Operations, Colonel Jorge Naime, during the invasions, despite the fact that he was on vacation.

According to Vieira, information would have come from that department of the corporation that there would be no risk in the act that was being organized for that day.

The former head of the PM stated that the sector had informed “that the situation was OK, that the staff employed was what was needed according to the intelligence information they had”.
