University student targeted by age prejudice wins course – 02/04/2023 – Daily life

University student Patrícia Linares, 45, a Biomedicine student who was discriminated against by two classmates on account of her age, at a college in Bauru (331 kilometers from São Paulo), won a scholarship in England.

She was invited to participate in an exchange fair in the capital of São Paulo on Saturday (1st) and announced that she was awarded a scholarship to study abroad.

According to her friend Guilherme Gomes, who helps her answer press contacts, the scholarship entitles her to a two-week English course in England, airline tickets and travel insurance. All benefits were granted by a company specialized in student exchange.

“She’s radiant, she doesn’t believe it, she’s crying, she’s really emotional. She’s going through a difficult time, she’s unemployed, and she’s sure that this scholarship will help a lot”, stated Gomes.

She had already won an English course at a school in the city where she lives, in the interior of São Paulo.

She celebrated the achievement on a friend’s social network.

“I would like you to invest in education. You who are thinking and don’t have the courage, you who want it, it’s your dream, but you don’t want it because of your age. So what are we going to do next? Age does not define us, age is just a number. So let’s put our dream to work because life doesn’t wait. We have to pass like this: shining, studying, learning and evolving”, said Linares.

The university student, on the 20th, registered a police report for insult and defamation against the three young women who recorded a video in which they practice age discrimination against her.

The recording in which Patrícia Linares is attacked went viral on social media at the beginning of March. In it, one of the young women jokes: “Guys, quiz of the day: how do you ‘unenroll’ a classmate?”. Then another says: “Bro, she is 40 years old already. She was supposed to be retired”. “Really,” declares a third.

“Guys, 40 years old can’t go to college anymore. I have this opinion.”, completes the student holding the camera.

Report by Sheet showed that the statements can be framed as a crime of injury.

On the last 16th, the trio author of the recording left the biomedicine graduation. The information was confirmed by the Unisagrado university center, where those involved studied, in Bauru.

Days after the case, Linares received a tribute from classmates. She posted an image of the moment on her social media.

“What are these seniors? Giants! What about me? So lucky to be surrounded by love,” she wrote.
