The Multi-Sports Gymnasium of the Federal University of Amapá (Unifap) welcomed, on the last weekend of November (25th and 26th), volleyball teams and those passionate about the sport who participated in the II Projeto Marli Volleyball Festival. The Unifap team became champion of the tournament, winning a trophy and a prize of R$500. In second place was the Provider team, winning R$300 in prize money plus a trophy, and third place went to the CPD team, taking home trophy and prize of R$200.
The competition featured the participation of seven volleyball teams, from the municipalities of Macapá and Santana, and a team of teachers and academics from Unifap. The Unifap team coach, Prof. Carina Reis highlighted that participating in the tournament was very rewarding and important as it provides opportunities for new athletes.
“The event was open, so it had the participation of teams competing for the state championship and this was very interesting because the technical level was very good. (…) Furthermore, it is an incentive for the sport, there was also a cash prize that we will use for collective purposes, so the experience was very good and, despite very difficult games, we emerged victorious”, celebrated the coach.
The II Volleyball Festival was promoted by the Marli Extension Project, linked to the Training, Improvement, Professional Qualification and Languages Program (Profid). “The project closes with a flourish, with the multi-sport festival in volleyball, and this will certainly mark the University”, stated the general coordinator of Profid and project coordinator, Prof. Ms. Melque Lima.
About the Marli Project
The extension project “Marli: sport, leisure and citizenship” emerged in 2020 and aims to provide young people and adolescents and children in social vulnerability with the opportunity to develop sporting activities through three modalities: futsal, athletics and volleyball. The name of the project pays homage to the professor of the Physical Education course at Unifap, Marli Gibson.
“The Marli Project is based on the principle that education and sport need to go hand in hand. It is necessary that people from communities, especially from peripheral neighborhoods, can develop techniques and skills for sport and leisure. Marli fulfills the social function of the University: bringing and generating opportunities, through sport, which can change lives”, observes the project coordinator, Prof. Ms. Melque Lima.
The project will have ten centers throughout the state of Amapá, serving around 1,500 young people and teenagers aged 16 to 18 and children in athletics. Find out more about the project at and on the official Instagram profile: @projetomarli.
