The União Brasil and the PP, party of the mayor, Arthur Lira, announced this Wednesday (12) the formation of a block with seven other parties, including the PSB and the PDT, which are part of the allied base of the Luiz government. Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
With 173 deputies, the group will be the largest in the house, surpassing the alliance formed by the Republicans with PSD, MDB, Podemos and PSC, which has 142 parliamentarians.
From the formation of the blocks, the two largest forces in the Chamber will have Centrão parties. On the one hand, the Republicans allied with a part of the centre-right parties. On the other, the PP and the Union with PSB, PDT, PSDB, Citizenship, Solidarity, Forward and Patriot.
There is an assessment in Congress that the PT, as well as the PL, will remain isolated. The federation formed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s party (PT-PCdoB-PV) has 81 deputies, while former President Jair Bolsonaro’s party has 99.
The PDT, the PSB and Solidarity have already announced that they are negotiating to form a federation, which was seen as a way of opposing the PT in the National Congress.
The federated parties need to work together for at least four years, including in majoritarian elections, such as that of president and senator, in which they only need to launch a single candidate.
There was also an attempt at federation between the PP and União Brasil. Negotiations have stalled at regional impasses but have precipitated backroom talks between the other parties.
The very formation of the Republican block with the center-right subtitles was seen as a reaction to the movement of Lira’s party.
