“We have been demanding and discussing, with Sedel, the reports requested by the CBF so that there is an update in the National Stadium System and that Zerão can be able to receive this game, for the Copa do Brasil”he said.
The deadline for the delivery of four reports for the match to take place ‘at the Locomotive’s house’ ends this Thursday (09) and of these, the stadium only has the engineering one. “The stadium is unable to host official matches, so much so that there is a sentence issued by the 4th Civil and Public Treasury Court of the District of Macapá, extremely well prepared by Judge Alaide Paula. This sentence prohibits games with public presence in Zerão. We have a meeting today (09) and we hope that the issue will be resolved and that our audience can return to the Stadium and receive the match between Trem and Vasco”, said one of the Train directors, Osmar Marino.
This will be the first time that the two teams will face each other in the tournament. In friendly matches, the Train already lost from Basque, in 1953, in São Januário, by 5×0 and in 1987, Gigante da Colina beat Locomotiva by 2×1, at Estádio Glicério Marques.
The competition
The definition of the clashes takes into account the criteria previously established by the Department of Competitions of the CBF. The 80 clubs classified for the First Phase were divided into eight pots, with ten teams in each, identified from A to H, following the National Club Ranking (RNC). The top ten ranked teams make up pot A, the next ten occupy pot B, and so on down to pot H.
The format of the duels will be in a single game, with the home team being the team with a lower position in the National Club Ranking. Simple victories guarantee the team in the next one and the visiting team has the advantage of the draw.
In addition to the 80 initial teams, another 12 are already pre-qualified to start the competition from the third phase of the Copa do Brasil. Six of them – Atlético-MG, Fortaleza, Flamengo, Palmeiras, Athletico-PR, Internacional, Corinthians and Fluminense – compete in this year’s Libertadores, and the others are teams from São Paulo (9th in Serie A of the Brazilian Championship), Cruzeiro (champion of Série B), Sport, (runner-up of Copa do Nordeste) and Paysandu (champion of Copa Verde).
This year, the Copa do Brasil will have a record award, with an increase in the value of quotas in all phases. The total value will be R$ 420 million distributed throughout the competition. The champion will be able to earn up to R$ 91.8 million.
