Unesp dismisses teacher who was arrested in coup acts – 05/01/2023 – Education

The rector of Unesp (São Paulo State University), Pasqual Barretti, signed the resignation of a professor who was arrested in the coup acts of January 8, in Brasília.

Sandra de Moraes Gimenes Bosco, a professor at the Botucatu Institute of Biosciences, had been away from teaching activities since January 10, when she was arrested on a bus returning from Brasília. She and other coup plotters were arrested on suspicion of having participated in the invasions and depredations at the offices of the Three Powers.

The dismissal of the teacher was published in the Official Gazette this Saturday (29), after the completion of the investigation of an administrative disciplinary process. She still has the right to appeal the decision to the University Council, according to the university.

A Sheet sought out the professor to comment on the dismissal, but she did not respond.

“In relation to the penalty of dismissal applied, a disciplinary infraction of a very serious nature was characterized, after a careful investigation carried out within the scope of the Disciplinary Administrative Process, instituted by the university unit as a result of the participation of the professor in the acts of January 8, 2023”, said the university in note.

Also according to the rectory, the process respected the constitutional principle of full defense and found that the servant violated “functional duties provided for in the Statute of Civil Public Servants of the State.”

Among the prohibitions under state law is that of committing acts of sabotage against the public service or committing a crime provided for in the laws relating to security and national defense, in addition to damaging property.

The teacher was arrested on a bus with 44 other Bolsonaristas. According to the Federal Highway Police, the passengers had rubber bullet marks all over their bodies and confessed to having participated in the invasion in Brasília.

Unesp said it had received complaints about the teacher’s participation from the institution’s ombudsman and, therefore, decided to open an administrative process. At the time, the university said it “does not tolerate this type of attitude” and that it would also file a complaint with the Ministry of Justice and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
