The Provisional Measure (MP) 1165 of the More Doctors program, was approved in the mixed committee of the National Congress this Wednesday afternoon (31), under the chairmanship of the deputy from Amapa, Dorinaldo Malafaia (PDT).
The program is the federal government’s main measure to expand medical coverage in the country, focusing on the most isolated and difficult to access locations. The Amazon, for example, in the program’s current configuration, will have a special highlight.
Malafaia conducted the meetings and four public hearings in which he highlighted the plurality of opinions in the debates. The main point of disagreement was in relation to whether or not the Revalida exam was mandatory for physicians trained in foreign countries.
Initially, the government’s text exempted the mandatory examination for up to eight years, during the term of the exchange doctor with the program. More than 90 amendments were presented and, in the end, the rapporteur, Senator Zenaide Maia (PSD-RN), built a consensus text, reducing to four years the period in which the doctor trained abroad can work in the program without the Revalida .
The deputy from Amapá pointed out that up to 28,000 doctors could be hired and recalled locations such as the Bailique Archipelago, where it is more difficult for doctors to stay.
“This program is designed to bring assistance to the Brazilian population, especially to the most needy population, from more remote places. I am very happy with our conduct on the commission. We do the job.” highlighted the deputy.
The text now goes for approval in the Chamber of Deputies, then in the Federal Senate and, finally, for presidential sanction.
