New reading space arrives at Escola Municipal Ester and Escola Municipal Percilia Nascimento sponsored by 3M and organized by CEC Brasil

Manaus (AM) – A little house decorated with tables, chairs, puffs, puppet theater and the main thing, a collection of 600 books. Spaces like this one are the result of the Casinha de Livros project, which will reach two municipal schools in Manaus, starting this Thursday (11th), organized by CEC Brasil and sponsored by 3M via the Culture Incentive Law of the Ministry of Culture and Federal Government Union and Reconstruction.

The project will benefit the Ester Municipal School, located at km 8 of the BR 174 Highway, and the Percília Nascimento Municipal School, in the Compensa neighborhood, which serve, respectively, 256 students from 4 to 10 years old (Kindergarten and Elementary School I), and 500 students from 6 to 10 years old (Fundamental I).

In the recreational space, the collection is varied. It has books of fairy tales, fables, popular Brazilian, indigenous, African tales, all for children and young people. In addition to reading champions, there are works that raise discussions necessary for society, such as respect for differences, female empowerment and the environment, with copies in Braille.

The setting is a separate attraction. By representing endangered animals, such as the giant otter, blue macaw, maned wolf, golden lion tamarin, jaguar and yellow woodpecker, it provokes reflection and raises awareness about the preservation of the immense Brazilian biodiversity, which is found threatened.

The inauguration of the space at Ester Municipal School took place this morning, when the children got to know the little literary house for the first time.

“The expectations I have about the project is that, through it, we can encourage the habit of reading as a form of entertainment for our students, generating competent and independent readers capable of understanding the importance of reading for their intellectual and cognitive development, thus fulfilling the objectives proposed by the project in our school”,

At Percília Nascimento Municipal School, the space was introduced to students this afternoon. “Casinha de Livros is a beautiful, pampering, cozy space and a dream come true, as our school is located in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Manaus, with part of our students in social and economic vulnerability, where for many the school is the only differentiated space, then the impact of this project with our pedagogical work in the lives of our children will be considerably positive. Nothing better than reading good books to take us to places we could never go”,

“With this project we want to reduce the distance between books and readers. We know that access to the book is still a challenge for many Brazilians. In this way, Casinha offers a rich collection with titles from major Brazilian publishers for schools and institutions, being a playful cultural equipment so that children and young people can discover new perspectives on our world and literature”, declares Kaline Vânia, administrative director of CEC Brazil.

The Casinha de Livros project is in its fourth edition, and its main objective is to promote and expand the importance of reading in the symbolic universe of communities and social groups. The starting point is to make the book a center of reference and training for readers with reading awareness for the future, making available and enabling access to publications that are objects of desire and difficult to access.

The initiative complies with Law No. 12,244 of May 24, 2010, which establishes the obligation of having a library in educational institutions across the country. The project also helps in the educational process, in the reduction of illiteracy and in the formation of a public that consumes culture.
