TSE sees lack of record of artist donations to Lula – 02/07/2023 – Panel

A report from the technical area of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) states that there is no record, in Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) accountability, of donations from artists who participated in a campaign event in the final stretch of the first round, last year.
For lawyers of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) campaign, the lack of this record configures a cash register and abuse of economic power.
The opinion of the technical area, issued on January 18, was requested by the Minister-Inspector of the TSE, Benedito Gonçalves, rapporteur of a lawsuit filed by the former president against the opponent’s campaign after the event. The document will be used to support its decision, still without a scheduled date.
The support act for Lula was held on September 26, 2022, at the Anhembi auditorium, in São Paulo. Named “Grande Ato Brasil da Esperança with Lula 13”; was defined as a “superlive”, with the presence of singers such as Anitta, Ludmilla, Pablo Vittar and Duda Beat. The PT campaign was broadcast on Facebook and rebroadcast in bars and restaurants in several states.
In the view of Bolsonaro’s campaign, the artists’ participation is equivalent to an estimated donation, since they all charge high fees, and these amounts should have been included in the accountability.
Lula’s candidacy recorded only expenses with the organization of the event, in the amount of R$ 1.06 million, paid to two specialized companies.
“The event called ‘Super Live’ affected the fairness of the entire electoral process, influencing the will of the voter and the very credibility of the expenses (and accountability) of those being investigated”, say Lula’s lawyers, in a statement sent to Gonçalves in this Monday (6).
Bolsonaro’s defense calls for Lula’s impeachment and the president’s ineligibility.
Lawyers for the PT campaign were contacted, but did not comment until the publication of this text.
