TRE-PR unites PL and PT actions against Senator Sergio Moro

The Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) joined two actions filed by the PL and the PT against Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil) that were being processed separately and that could lead to the impeachment of the parliamentarian. The lawsuits were filed by the parties of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in April this year.

In the decision presented this Tuesday (13), the judge Mario Helton Jorge says that the two representations present the same arguments and reasons for the impeachment of the senator, questioning Moro’s expenses during the pre-campaign in the 2022 elections. parliamentarian presented himself as a pre-candidate for the presidency of the Republic and would have benefited from the budget for the position to run for the Senate.

The magistrate also accepted requests for information from the state and national directorates of Podemos, a party to which Moro was affiliated at the time, and to União Brasil, in which he ran for the position of senator for Paraná.

For Mario Helton Jorge, there was illegal fundraising and spending, abuse of economic power, misuse of the media and the seriousness of the exposed facts. In addition to Moro, the actions also target the deputy’s alternates: Luis Felipe Cunha and Ricardo Augusto Guerra.

A People’s Gazette, the senator said that the TRE-PR decision “reinforces the lack of evidence”. “PT and neither PL (now together in action) could find anything against me. I remain calm, certain of the legality of my actions. While they attack me, I keep working for Paraná and Brazil”, he added.

Moro conducted Lava Jato processes at the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba before participating in the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) as a minister. After leaving the portfolio, he joined Podemos in 2021 and launched himself for the presidency with the consent of the party’s leadership. Shortly afterwards, he migrated to União Brasil in March 2022 and decided to run for the Senate in July.

The former judge was elected senator for Paraná with 1.9 million votes.
