At least 36 people died and 560 had to leave their homes because of the rains on the north coast of São Paulo, which caused landslides, floods and landslides in the region this Sunday (19). In São Sebastião, there were 35 fatalities, including four children, and in Ubatuba, one person did not resist.

According to the state government, 970 people were displaced and 747 are homeless, totaling 1,717 away from home. Governor Tarcísio de Freitas declared a state of public calamity in the two cities and in neighboring Ilhabela, Caraguatatuba and Bertioga, which were also affected.

Several access roads were totally or partially blocked. A section of the Mogi-Bertioga highway (SP-098) was completely interrupted after a pipeline ruptured. Twelve points on Doutor Manoel Hyppólito Rego (SP-055) were closed due to falling barriers and trees and flooding. The same occurred at 17 points on the Rio-Santos (BR-101), with 9 total and 8 partial bans.

Water, electricity and telephone services are compromised due to the fall of poles and the carrying of sediments to the water treatment plants.

This Monday (20), rescue teams continue to look for buried or isolated survivors. At least 40 people were missing, 36 in Barra do Sahy and another four in Juquehy.
