The tourism sector in the city of São Paulo earned, on average, around R$46.5 million per day in 2023, according to a survey carried out by SPTuris, a company owned by the São Paulo city hall.
The segment earned more than R$17 billion throughout last year, which resulted in more than R$600 million collected in ISS (Service Tax) for the municipality — a rate 40% higher compared to 2022. The numbers were calculated based on data from the city’s Tourism and Events Observatory and Fecomércio de São Paulo.
According to SPTuris, entertainment tourism was fundamental in reaching the expressive numbers. Only the six shows performed by the British group Coldplay and the Lollapalooza festival, which took place last March, caused the hotel occupancy rate to reach 77%, the highest ever recorded in a single month since 2018.
Two major international events are planned for this year in the capital of São Paulo: the WEC/Le Mans car race, in July, and an official match of the American football league, the NFL, on a date to be defined.
