The PM’s lawyer stated that withdrawing the PM’s salaries would be an early conviction
Sao Paulo-SP) – The São Paulo Court of Justice determined the payment of full salary to Lieutenant Henrique Otávio Oliveira Velozo, accused of killing jiu-jitsu champion Leandro Lo, at Clube Sírio, in August last year.
The decision was taken by Judge Márcio Ferraz Nunes, from the 16th Public Treasury Court of São Paulo, and confirms an injunction previously obtained by the PM’s defense. According to the magistrate, the State of São Paulo must pay the police officer’s salaries until the action becomes final, in addition to retroactive payments since August.
The PM’s lawyer, Tiago Binati, said that withdrawing Velozo’s wages would be an early conviction, which is prohibited by the Constitution.
In a previous appeal, the state government claimed that Velozo and his dependents have the possibility of receiving the reclusion aid, which, according to the state, would correspond to the salary of the military police.
Crime
World jiu-jitsu champion Lo was shot in the head and killed by Velozo.
According to the incident report, after an argument, the MP went to the fighter’s table with a bottle in his hand. Lo then took the bottle away from Velozo, who was knocked down and pinned.
Lo’s friends tried to separate the two and asked them to end the fight, but the MP walked around the table, pulled out his gun and shot the fighter in the left side of the head.
