TJAM subpoenas Amazonas Energia after CMM action

Request for urgent guardianship will be analyzed by the judiciary after the concessionaire’s manifestation

Manaus (AM) – The Amazonas Court of Justice (TJAM) summoned the company Amazonas Energia to provide clarifications on an advertising campaign that states that “whoever is against aerial meters is in favor of crime”. The request for urgent relief to remove the advertisement from the air came from the City Council of Manaus (CMM) and will be appreciated after the company’s manifestation.

The action is dated April 26 and was signed by the Attorney General of CMM. TJAM received the request and, in an order dated April 28, gave the company a period of five working days to manifest itself and then assess the request by the Legislative House. If the request is granted, the concessionaire will have a period of 24 hours to remove the advertising piece from the air, both on TV and on social networks.

“It can be seen that the advertising piece is calling the population of Manaus the designated law as a criminal, while it is offending and damaging the image of the Manaus City Council, given that the PL that gave rise to the law came from this House and, duly , sanctioned by the mayor”, says an excerpt from the document sent by the Manaus City Council.

The PL sanctioned by the City of Manaus is authored by the president of the House, councilor Caio André (PSC). Bill No. 375/2022 prohibits the installation of aerial meters based on an amendment to the Code of Postures of the City Master Plan.

In addition to the request for urgent relief, Caio André, stated that he called the State Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPE-AM) to remove the advertisement from the air. The request in the form of a representation includes both the CMM and the residents of the capital, Aleam and DPE-AM, who were against the installation of aerial energy meters.

“The Public Prosecutor’s Office now has the ball and without a doubt, sue the company, sue the Justice, so that it removes the slanderous propaganda against the population and all those who are against the infamous aerial meters. It’s the least that can be done, since advertising affronts the whole of Manaus society, trying, in a grotesque way, to impose its will on the will of the consumer, who is the population of Manaus”, emphasizes Caio.

Dismissal Motion

On April 24, the CMM approved a motion of repudiation presented by councilor Sassá da Construção Civil (PT) due to the concessionaire’s offensive advertising. The request was approved unanimously by the councilors of the House.

“We are very sad because Amazonas Energia does not respect the population. We made a motion of repudiation here in the Chamber, I was the proposer of this note and we asked them to remove the advertisement from the air because it is calling us all ‘criminals’. This note of repudiation is to show that no one is against the wrong things, but no one can accept what they do to the population”, said councilor Sassá, author of the motion.
