Chelsea announced this Friday that they have renewed the contract with defender Thiago Silva until the end of the 2023/24 season. The defender’s current bond with the club ended in June of this year, but the Brazilian player himself had already signaled his intention to renew with the Blues.
“When I signed my first contract here, it was only for one year. Now it’s the fourth! It’s a very special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea”, declared Thiago Silva.
In early 2023, a possible return of Thiago Silva to Brazilian football, more precisely to Fluminense, the club that revealed him, was speculated. But the trend is that the 38-year-old defender will remain at Chelsea, at least, until 2024, when he turns 40 years old.
For the London club, Thiago Silva has played 105 matches since 2020, five goals scored and five assists, in addition to winning the UEFA Champions League in his first season for the club. Before defending Chelsea, the Brazilian played for Paris Saint-Germain for eight seasons between 2012 and 2020, in addition to a spell at Milan.
