Theft of cables and wires should be CPI targets in SP – 04/02/2023 – Panel

The City Council of São Paulo should vote in the coming weeks on the installation of new CPIs (Parliamentary Committees of Inquiry). According to the Panel’s findings, the three most likely to be installed today are those targeting theft of wires and cables, occupations of public and private properties in São Paulo and animal abuse.

The Clearinghouse can have up to five CPIs working simultaneously, and currently has only one. However, councilors are not expected to define the other four immediately.

The CPI on the theft of wires and cables, proposed by councilor Coronel Salles (PSD), aims to identify perpetrators and receivers, measure the impacts on the city (lack of lighting, switched off traffic lights, traffic accidents, depredation of poles) and propose solutions.

Fernando Holiday’s CPI application (Republicans) says that occupations by social movements put properties (public or private) and the people who live in them at risk.

One of the main competitors of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) in the 2024 electoral dispute should be federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), leader of one of these movements, the MTST (Movement of Homeless Workers). Holiday is affiliated with the Republicans, which is part of the emedebista’s support base.

Current vice-president of the Chamber, Xexéu Tripoli (PSDB) should lead a CPI on mistreatment of animals, an area in which he has a strong presence. One of the possibilities is that a CPI be installed on the trade of exotic and native animals in São Paulo.

By agreements in the Chamber, the PT must also choose a CPI to be installed. Councilman Adilson Amadeu (União Brasil) is trying to get a CPI to analyze the contracts, costs and execution of urban cleaning services by Loga and EcoUrbis in the capital.
