General Augusto Heleno, former minister of the GSI (Institutional Security Office), says he prefers not to comment on the accusations made by the current interim head of the body, Ricardo Cappelli, that he was involved in the coup acts that took place on January 8, in Brasilia.

He suggests, however, that the statements would not correspond to the facts. “The truth always comes out”, says Heleno, in a message sent to the column.

In an interview with the Congress in Focus, Ricardo Cappelli stated that “very possibly” the investigations into January 8 will point to the involvement of the former minister of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the consummation of coup acts.

To the publication, the interim head of the GSI also questioned an alleged “disappearance” of the general. “He disappeared. I think those who hide fear the truth, that’s my opinion. General Heleno is hiding. Where? Who can talk to him?”, said Cappelli.

“It strikes me that the bully, the bully, who lived there inciting attacks on the institutions of the Republic, has been missing for four months. Where is he?”, he continued.

The GSI has been led on an interim basis by Ricardo Cappelli since last week, when General Gonçalves Dias, then minister, resigned after the release of images that put the agency’s performance in check during the January 8 coup attack.

Recording revealed by CNN Brasil shows that the vandals received water from the military and greeted GSI agents during the action at the Planalto Palace.

In the last four years, under the management of Augusto Heleno, the GSI was aligned with then-President Jair Bolsonaro. The general appointed soldiers of his trust who carried a great anti-PT sentiment.
