The petition of jurists supports the prosecutor for the STF – 04/14/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

An online petition in support of the appointment of prosecutor Ana Cláudia Pinho, from the Public Ministry of Pará, to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) gathers, until this Friday (14), more than 1,700 signatories. The petition was launched by the group Juristas pela Amazônia.

As the column showed, the Italian jurist Luigi Ferrajoli, considered the “father” of criminal guaranteeism and who has already been praised by Lula (PT), is one of those who endorse her candidacy for the vacancy.

Jurists and lawyers who support Pinho’s name cultivate the expectation that she will be considered competitive for the post of minister Rosa Weber, current president of the STF. The magistrate will retire in October this year.

The text of the undersigned affirms that the STF, since its creation, “has had a majority of ministers from the center-south of the country” and that “there is a gap in the history of the most important Court in the country whose correction is still being made most necessary at this time when the Amazon reinforces its importance by positioning itself at the center of the national and international debate”.

The document also says that it is necessary to “recompose the inequality of regional representation in the STF” and that it is in this scenario that they publicly express “their support for the nomination of Ana Cláudia Pinho”.

In a letter addressed to President Lula and sent to Brazil last month, Luigi Ferrajoli mentioned the prosecutor from Pará.

He stated that Pinho is a jurist from the Amazon with a 30-year career dedicated to the Public Ministry and the defense of human rights, in addition to being a professor at the Federal University of Pará who focuses on legal guarantees.
