Gospel singer Everton Mestre believes that the choice for Christian songs is intended to show that the athlete will not fight alone
A show apart at MMA events are the songs chosen by the fighters as they walk to the place where they will face their opponents. The trails are varied, according to the competitor’s taste, and range from the most agitated to the slow ones. However, one of the frequently chosen options is gospel.
Singer Everton Mestre comments on this paradox of Christian music before an agitated body fight. According to the artist, when a fighter enters to decide his fate, motivation is needed beyond technical skills. In this, gospel music enters to emotionally prepare the athlete for the dispute that he will face right ahead.
“What you can see is that they like to show that, regardless of their muscles and technique, they enter as soldiers of Christ. God is the one who fights for them, so I see it as a way to intimidate the opponent. Many after their victories, they always exalt Christ. I have a great fighter friend who always declares Christ as the center of his life and, regardless of victory or defeat, he enters with praise”, he commented.
If at the entrance the music serves as support and to show that they are not going to fight alone, behind the scenes they also play an important role: preparing the fighters. The singer also comments that, before or after the fight, the songs serve as a breath of fresh air.
“I can speak in the case of praise, when an athlete is in concentration and listens to Christian music, he places his heart and his anxieties in God. He is asking for strength, humility and training to enter, not get hurt and continue his work. Music soothes and brings truths that often go unnoticed. I see music as a great water divider before and after the fight”, he concluded.
