Individual microentrepreneurs were mainly responsible for the increase, with a total of 18.6 thousand businesses

Manaus (AM) – The technical report prepared by the Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) recorded a 62.2% increase in the number of small businesses opened in Amazonas. The data corresponds to the period from 2019 to 2022, including Individual Microentrepreneur (MEI), Microentrepreneur (ME) and Small Business (EPP) companies. The study is carried out based on the National Legal Entity Registration Card (CNPJ) from the Federal Revenue of Brazil (RFB), accessed through an agreement between Sebrae Nacional and RFB.

According to the study, in 2019 the state registered 14,111 open businesses, involving MEIs, ME and EPP. In 2022, the number reached 22.8 thousand. Commerce and Services were the most cataloged sectors in Amazonas, according to the report’s data.

In the second quarter of 2023, the country registered the total opening of 954.5 thousand new Small Businesses. Amazonas closed in the same period with 21.8 thousand, with the highest number highlighted for MEIs, with 17.4 thousand.

The document attributes the growth to technological transformation processes in recent years, which facilitated the opening of companies in the country. The use of digital media is one of the main factors in this change, such as the registration of Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI), being carried out entirely over the internet.
