The end of the Brasileirão is a time of celebrations, joys and also disappointments. This Wednesday (6), Palmeiras officially receives authorization to celebrate the title, already won. Cruzeiro will try to stamp Palmeiras’ banner.

The technical director, Paulo Autuori, who led the team in the last games, was, with his experience, knowledge and lucidity, very important in achieving the objective of staying in Series A.

The positions of technical director and/or technical coordinator need to be better discussed in football. The technical director, close to the board, has functions outside the game in organization and planning, while the technical coordinator, close to the coach, coaching staff and players, has functions more linked to the field, the game, through his opinions about the team.

In practice, the technical coordinator does not exist, as the coach, with the collaboration of his assistants, does not accept discussing, much less sharing, his responsibility and conduct with the coordinator.

There are rare exceptions. When winning the 1994 World Cup, the technical coordinator, Zagallo, whispered his opinions in the ear of the coach, Parreira, who, with humility, admiration and gratitude, valued the opinions of his master and friend. In the 1970 World Cup, Zagallo was the coach and Parreira was one of the physical trainers.

Ideally, the coach of the Brazilian team, especially a young man like Fernando Diniz, would have a coordinator with technical knowledge and experience at his side to exchange ideas with to help him. They say that the CBF did not hire a technical director and/or a coordinator because Ancelotti, with his greatness in football, would not need a technical director or coordinator.

The parties at the end of the Brasileirão also included farewells to football for excellent players, such as Filipe Luís, from Flamengo, Réver, from Atlético-MG, and Fábio Santos, from Corinthians, in addition to the farewell to Suárez from Grêmio and the fans. Filipe Luís, due to his technical and personal behavior and lucidity, has a great chance of becoming a great coach.

Veteran Suárez, no longer able to shine in one of the great European teams, gave Brazil a course on how to be a center forward, playmaker and goalscorer. Suárez, with his movement, intelligence, anticipation of moves and precision in his passes and shots, enchanted everyone. He showed the difference between a Brazilian star and a world star, as he is. On the other hand, Grêmio’s style, with lots of ball possession and exchange of passes, made it easier for Suárez.
