The cold blood of Flávio Dino and Rui Costa – 01/24/2023 – Elio Gaspari

Reporter Guilherme Amado revealed details of the events of January 8 that justifies, with plenty, the change of commander of the Army, General Júlio César de Arruda. More than that, they reveal that the cold blood of the Ministers of Justice, Flávio Dino, and Rui Costa, head of the Civil House, saved the country from an unprecedented crisis, due to the quality of their attitudes.

To the facts, according to Amado’s narrative:
On the night of the 8th, after the invasion of the Planalto Palace, the Federal Supreme Court and Congress, a PM troop from Brasília went to the area where people who had been calling for a coup d’état were camped for weeks. Many of them had participated in the invasions, in the afternoon, and the objective was to arrest them, by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The Planalto military commander ordered the police to be stopped, and the scene of the barrier was shown on television.

Shortly afterwards, the Army commander met with the federal intervenor in Brasília’s Security, Ricardo Cappelli, and with the Colonel commander of the Military Police. Tough talk, and in it General Arruda would have said: “You know that my troop is a little bigger than yours, right?”

A new meeting followed, this time with the presence of ministers José Múcio (Defense), Rui Costa (Civil House) and Flávio Dino (Justice). Dino wanted to arrest the people who were in the camp and the general, in addition to not admitting the arrests, wanted him to return the buses that had transported people who invaded the buildings of the Três Poderes square.

As revealed by reporter Marina Dias, voices rose and the two got to their feet. Before time could close, “Rui Costa intervened and led the conversation towards a conciliation. It was agreed that the arrests would not take place at that time, but rather the following morning”.

That same night, asked about the impasse, whose scenic details were not known, Flávio Dino gave a bureaucratic, appeasing answer. His cold blood prevented the crisis from being contaminated by the apocalyptic paints that Jair Bolsonaro injected into national political relations. The next day, peace was made.

Since April 7, 1831, when Brigadier Francisco de Lima e Silva showed d. Pedro 1st that his reign was over, nothing like that ever happened. On the night of January 2, 2021, four days before the invasion of the US Capitol, General Mark Milley, head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, saw the Trumpists’ tweets and commented: “This is the Gospel of the Führer”.

On the 6th, at 3 pm, Milley sent the National Guard to the Capitol. At 7:45 pm, the building was retaken.
