The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), said this Thursday morning (15) that the two bills recently approved by the Chamber of Deputies on an urgent basis, such as the time frame for the demarcation of indigenous lands and the which criminalizes criticism of politicians, will be analyzed in thematic commissions before going to the plenary of the house.
“The project for the timeframe was sent to the Agriculture Commission and the Constitution and Justice Commission. It is an issue that is important to have some kind of composition involving the Federal Supreme Court, the Advocacy General of the Union, the states, representatives of indigenous peoples and ruralists, who would all sit at the table to be able to have a discussion”, said emphasizing that there will be no kind of “hurriedness” in the processing of the project.
As for the bill that criminalizes criticism of politicians, discussed shortly before the vote on Wednesday night (14), Pacheco said that he did not know the text and that he did not even know of the proposal’s existence. “Obviously, upon reaching the Senate, we will know the text and identify which committees it should go through”, he added.
The project, by rapporteur Claudio Cajado (PP-BA), punishes any criticism of politically exposed people who feel “discriminated against”. However, it does not establish a penalty for those responsible.
