The organizers of Paris Games 2024 (Olympics and Paralympics) defined on Thursday (6) the calendar of test events for the main sporting competition on the planet. There will be a total of 18 events this year alone, starting with the international sailing tournament, starting on July 9, in the Marina of Marseille, a port city in the south of France. During the preparatory events for Paris 2024, the organizers are able to identify problems and correct possible failures before the opening of the Games, scheduled for July 26, 2024.
“We are in full preparation and this is the right time for a review”said the head of operations Edouard Donnelly, in testimony to the website of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “Test events are part of a global program, which we call preparation internally. The idea is to train the teams, because we cannot fail in the Games. So we need to train a lot, test all decision-making processes and all operational decisions.”
The program foresees three types of test events: the international competitions organized by the Paris 2024 Committee (sailing, triathlon and mountain bike); tournaments run by national and international federations (slalom canoeing); and operational tests in closed places (Grand Palais, Versailles and Roland Garros), with a limited number of invited athletes.
The test events will run until June next year, when the last one on the list is scheduled: athletics and para-athletics at the Stade de France.
