Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova scored 2 sets to 0 (6/3 and 6/4)
Bia Haddad Maia debuted at the WTA 500 in Adelaide, Australia, with her left foot. The Brazilian faced Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Sunday night (7) and ended up eliminated by 2 sets to 0 (6/3 and 6/4).
The opponent came from two victories in the qualifiers and showed greater firepower, especially in the second serve (91% serving). She also managed more breaks of serve (3 to 1), which made the victory easier.
“I know (she is) a great fighter and if you give her a chance to come back, she will. So I knew I had to be 200% against her and I’m glad it worked.”said the Russian.
The opponent in the round of 16, to be played tomorrow, is yet to be defined. Bia Haddad Maia regrets having wasted the chance to enter the top-10 of the world rankings.
The Brazilian’s focus becomes the Australia Open, the first Grand Slam of the season.
