After a historic campaign, the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad said goodbye this Thursday (8) to the key of simple de Roland Garros, after being overcome by the Polish Iga Swiatek, number one in the world and current champion of the tournament, by 2 sets to 0.
Despite the defeat, the 27-year-old from São Paulo wrote a new chapter of Brazilian tennis on Parisian clay, where Gustavo Kuerten from Santa Catarina was three times champion (1997, 2001 and 2001). Bia is the second Brazilian to reach this far in a Grand Slam (highest scoring tournament on the world circuit): the pioneer was multi-champion Maria Eshter Bueno, in 1968, at the US Open (1968).
Current number 12 in the world ranking, Bia can enter the top 10 of the Women’s Tennis Association for the first time, if Iga Swiatek beats the Czech Karolina Muchova (43rd) in the final, at 10am next Saturday (10th). The Pole will play in her third final at Roland Garros and fifth at a Grand Slam.
