Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia failed to finish her match this Monday (10), at Wimbledon, for the round of 16 of the British Grand Slam.
Already at the beginning of the game against Kazakh Elena Rybakina, Bia felt a nuisance in the left hip region. Afterwards, she complained of back pain and, with tears in her eyes, left the center court when the score was 4 games to 1 for Rybakina, still in the first set.
The first Brazilian to reach the round of 16 at Wimbledon since Maria Esther Bueno, in 1976, the Brazilian received a standing ovation from the audience present at the venue, and also received a hug from her opponent.
Elena Rybakina, number 3 in the world, is the current Wimbledon champion and advances to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Bia Haddad was also classified for the second round of doubles (alongside the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka), which should take place this Monday. However, it is unlikely that she will return to the courts.
In June, during the WTA 500 in Eastbourne, the tennis player had already abandoned the duel against Croatian Petra Martic with pain in her right calf, which hampered her preparation for Wimbledon.
