Telephone operators are concerned about an ordinance by the Ministry of Communications that extended the deadline for digitizing radio and TV stations until the end of the year.

This measure was a counterpart to the 4G telephony auction for the so-called “cleaning” of the 700 MHz (megahertz) band —installation of filters to prevent cell phone interference with broadcaster antennas. Frequency band is an avenue in the air through which the teles make their signals travel. Outside it, interference occurs.

Today, Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) says it has reached the limit of digitization —almost 95% of stations. And that there are no more requests,

The telecoms want the agency to end the process. Without that, they will have to continue depositing money in the company opened at the time, and controlled by Anatel, which was responsible for the digitization of the stations.

This process was a counterpart imposed on operators that acquired licenses in the 4G auction in 2014. They had to deposit funds in a company, called EAD, to clean up the 700 MHz band previously destined for broadcasting.
