Minister Augusto Nardes, of the Federal Audit Court (TCU), determined this Thursday (9) that a hearing be held with former president Jair Bolsonaro and former minister Bento Albuquerque, to provide clarification on the case of the jewelry given as a gift by Saudi Arabia.

Based on the questions presented by the minister, the former president will have to explain which gifts were received by Saudi Arabia, which ones are in his possession and what destination he planned to give them, and whether the jewels would be incorporated into the collection of government or your personal collection. If the gifts are of a personal nature, Bolsonaro must detail what steps he has taken to pay the due taxes.

In the preliminary decision, the minister also prohibited the former president from “using, disposing of or disposing of any piece from the collection of jewels that is the object of the process under examination”. The temporary determination is part of the Public Prosecutor’s Office process with the TCU, which investigates the circumstances in which the ornaments were received.

“Considering the high value of the assets involved and, also, the possible existence of assets that are in the possession of Jair Bolsonaro, as reported by the press, I believe it is important to determine that “the person responsible preserves intact, as a faithful depository, until further deliberation of this Court of Accounts, refraining from using, disposing or disposing of any piece from the collection of jewels object of the process under examination”, said the minister.

The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) reported, last Tuesday (7), that goods “of a very personal nature received on trips” were officially declared, as governs the law on the private collections of presidents of the Republic.
