Tax reform WG will delay report by 15 days – 05/10/2023 – Panel

With the articulation of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government still faltering, the GT (Working Group) of tax reform should delay the presentation of the report by at least 15 days. The forecast was to have a first text next Tuesday (16).
The postponement is due to difficulties in processing the fiscal framework, also without a final text. The mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), conditioned one vote to the other, prioritizing the new framework for public accounts. According to the initial projection, the framework would be voted on this Wednesday (10), but there is still no consensus on the proposal.
The rapporteur for the reform, Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), told interlocutors that he should wait at least 15 days after the end of the WG deadline to present his text. With this, he hopes to avoid the proposal being exposed too far from the vote and being “beaten up” during this period.
The group’s president, Deputy Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG), minimized the impact of the disarticulation of the governing base. According to him, these 15 days actually make up for the sessions that did not take place at the beginning of the year. The group was set up by Lira on February 19, but the first meeting only took place on March 3.
According to the deputy, these weeks will be used to hold a political debate with governors and other actors interested in the reform. The last hearing of the series of public hearings organized by the WG will take place this Thursday (11).
“This is not a government reform, it is a state reform. Planalto articulation does not interfere; we already have 400 votes to approve”, guarantees Lopes.
This is not the first time that the reading of the WG report has been postponed. The work plan approved at the beginning of the legislative year called for a vote on May 5.
