Tax reform may be approved in the 1st semester

The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), said yesterday that the tax reform may be approved by the National Congress in the first half of the year. Alckmin participated in the BandNews Green Economy, Future and Innovation Forum, held in São Paulo.
“Both presidents elected in Congress are in favor of tax reform. In 15 years, tax reform could generate a growth of 10% in the Brazilian GDP”, stated Alckmin, referring to the presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). and from the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG). And he continued: “I believe that the tax reform can be approved in the first semester. We have to take advantage of the majority in Congress to approve the reform.”
In 2023, the National Congress and the federal government will make another attempt to approve the tax reform.
At the opening of the Legislative year, the simplification of taxes was once again remembered as a priority for the country. There are two proposals in Congress that are already mature, PEC 110/2019, from the Senate, and PEC 45/2019, from the Chamber. Recently, Senator Oriovisto Guimarães (Podemos-PR) presented an alternative text, PEC 46/2022. All three proposed amendments to the Constitution seek to simplify the tax system.
