The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) said this Wednesday (9) that he is not a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026, saying he supports whoever Jair Bolsonaro (PL) chooses to run for office and mentioning the possibility of reversing the ineligibility of the former president until the next national election.
“I don’t need to be a presidential candidate, I won’t be and I will support whoever Bolsonaro supports”, said Tarcísio in an interview with Flow Podcast, stating that he was fulfilled and satisfied with the São Paulo Executive.
The governor also highlighted the strength of the former president on the right, which, according to him, would give the retired Army captain the right to choose, if he is unable to reverse the conviction at the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), the heir to his political estate. .
“Eligible or not, we don’t know what will happen in the future, I think who will be the right-wing candidate that people are very curious about, who will replace Bolsonaro is the candidate he appoints”, he concluded.
The Bandeirantes Palace is seen as a catapult for the Planalto, but Tarcísio has been publicly discouraging, since before sitting down in the chair, about the possibility of launching a national project in 2026.
Although he is engaged in waving at the same time to Bolsonarism and to the center, the governor is more dedicated to management issues, such as works and concessions, than to articulation with parties and parliamentarians.
The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo) also stated, on July 12, that it is not on his “radar” to focus on the 2026 presidential elections. “I would rather support someone than be a candidate”, he declared.
