The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), met this Wednesday (8) with leaders of the Mormon church, who announced the donation of US$ 500 thousand (about R$ 2.5 million) to help the victims of the rains on the north coast.
The meeting was attended by the American Neil Andersen, one of the main world leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the official name of the Mormon religion. Also participating were Adilson Parrella, leader of the church in Brazil, as well as other Mormon representatives in São Paulo.
Donated funds will be used to purchase furniture and household items for 450 apartments to be built by the state government for disaster victims.
In the one-hour conversation, held at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, Tarcísio read an excerpt from the Book of Mormons, a work that is a reference in the religion. He also received an image of Jesus Christ and a sculpture representing the family as a gift.
