Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) commented on the recent exchange of affection between the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), his ally, and President Lula (PT), his main opponent.
“Tarcísio is my brother”, he limited himself to saying, stating that he had no further political statement to make about the event on Friday (2) in which Lula and Tarcísio formalized the partnership in the construction of the tunnel between Santos and Guarujá and celebrated willingness to work together on strategic projects for the state.
Bolsonaro’s laconic phrase was given in response to a question from Sheet made after he received supporters at his beach house in Vila Histórica de Mambucaba, in Angra dos Reis (RJ), on Saturday (3).
Despite this, the former president did not fail to take advantage of the issue to criticize his opponent.
“They sent me a statement from the [Guilherme] Boulos that if Lula is stupid he even joins Tarcísio in the PT. I would be worried if he had said that Lula was going to steal Tarcísio for the PT, because of that [roubar] He understands well.”
Bolsonaro also said that Tarcísio is recognized even by his opponents as a good manager and that his attitude differs from that which, according to him, the PT governors had while he held the Presidency of the Republic, from 2019 to 2022.
According to Bolsonaro, with the exception of a call received from Camilo Santana (Ceará), no other PT governor wanted to talk to him during the period.
At Friday’s event, Tarcísio said that it was necessary to celebrate recent agreements between the federal government and the São Paulo government, such as the construction of the project on the coast. “What matters is seeing the public interest,” said the governor, who was applauded when he was announced, but also heard some boos and insults.
“We will leave this legacy by working together. Thank you very much for your partnership, President Lula.”
Lula spoke next and came to Tarcísio’s defense. She said that it is necessary to restore political “normality” so that he and the governor can work together on programs for the state, with “respect for differences” within democracy.
“The governor deserves to be treated with great respect in the public activities we carry out,” he stated. “Congratulations on the democratic relationship between Brazil and São Paulo”, concluded Lula at the end of his speech.
Bolsonaro has seen the erosion of allies who, on social media, are criticized for statements, recent or old, in support of Lula.
The president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, for example, had to explain himself on the networks and to the former president after an edited video began circulating on the internet from a December interview in which he, Valdemar, praised Lula, stating that the current president has prestige and popularity.
Bolsonaro reacted and spoke of a “party implosion” with an “absurd statement” from a “party person”
“This week I had a serious problem, I’m not going to talk to anyone. If it continues like this, the party will implode. Person from the party making absurd statements, such as ‘Lula is extremely popular’. Tell him to take a [cachaça] 51 around the corner. [Lula] It’s not coming,” he told supporters at the time.
