The honor also serves as yet another movement by the governor of São Paulo to move away from Bolsonarism. The union of forces between the Lula government and the Tarcísio de Freitas government in actions to recover the north coast of São Paulo after the heavy rains at the weekend was praised by both, in yet another sign of rapprochement between political opponents, and if became a counterpoint to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who supported Tarcísio in the 2022 elections.
According to the government, the ‘Civil Defense Medal of the State of São Paulo’ is a way of recognizing services “provided in activities related to Civil Defense and which have become worthy of public recognition”. Individuals, legal entities and civil or military organizations can receive it.
The medal was instituted in 1987 and delivered for the first time in December 1989 to 26 authorities of the State Civil Defense System.
