Tarcísio appoints former ally of Mario Covas for articulation – 03/06/2023 – Panel

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) appointed the criminal lawyer and former federal deputy Zulaiê Cobra to the position of technical advisor to the Civil House Secretariat.

The choice was made by the political group of Gilberto Kassab, Secretary of Government, president of the PSD, the party to which Zulaiê is affiliated, who is close to the former parliamentarian.

Zulaiê also represents a link between the Government of São Paulo and the City Hall of São Paulo, in which Fabricio Cobra, son of Zulaiê, acts as secretary of the Civil House.

Currently 79 years old, Zulaiê was a candidate for lieutenant governor of São Paulo in 1990, on the ticket of Mario Covas, who was defeated by the emedebist Luiz Antonio Fleury Filho.

In 1992, she was elected councilor in the capital. Two years later, she became a federal deputy for the PSDB, having been re-elected twice more.

In 2006, he was an alternate for Guilherme Afif Domingos (current Secretary of Strategic Projects) on a Senate ticket that would end up defeated by PT Eduardo Suplicy. Zulaiê then left the PSDB, criticizing the party for its opposition to the PT which she saw as weak.

Kassab said at a recent event that the Tarcísio government has “the face of the PSDB of [Franco] Montoro, from [Mario] Graves”. In his inauguration speech, the governor revered historical names of the party.

“We need to deliver the small things, which change the routine and make the difference. As Franco Montoro said: ‘My greatest work is the set of small works’, or Mario Covas: ‘I think that, sometimes, it is better to eliminate a queue than than building a viaduct'”, he added, also mentioning José Serra.
