Six times champion of the French Championship, the very traditional Bordeaux, founded in 1881, lost the chance to return to the first division due to the aggression of a fan of its opponent to an athlete in the final round of Ligue 2.

Rainville, claiming to follow competition protocol, waited 30 minutes and, as Buadés did not recover (according to the referee, the player had a concussion), suspended the match, leaving the decision of what to do to the mat.

The decision on the case took ten days, until the Disciplinary Committee of the league determined that the match would not be restarted, as desired by Bordeaux, and that the victory would be given to Rodez.

With that verdict, Bordeaux lost the chance to overcome Metz – it would need a rout to pass the competitor, who won in the last round and was three points ahead and with a better goal difference– and, finishing in third place, could not return to the elite.

In addition, the team will start the 2023-2024 championship with a negative point and the south sector of its stadium will be closed to fans for two matches.

Rodez, with the three points added, overtook Annecy and remained in the Premiership.
