Suspect gives testimony and denies verbal aggression against Moraes

Alex Zanatta, one of the three suspects of taking part in an alleged verbal aggression against Minister Alexandre de Moares, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), at Rome airport, in Italy, provided clarification to the Federal Police of Piracicaba, in the interior of São Paulo , this Sunday (16). Lawyer Raph Tórtima, who took over the case, said he denied any aggression against the minister.

“We will be clarifying this in the case file”, said Tórtima at the end of the statement. The other two suspects have yet to be heard.

There is no video record of the alleged attacks, but photos of the suspects at the Rome airport were leaked to the press. It is still not clear whether it was Moraes himself who accused Zanatta, his wife Andreia and his father-in-law Roberto Mantovani Filho to the Federal Police. The minister did not make a public statement until the early afternoon of Sunday (16).

The case occurred on Friday (14). Zanatta was accompanied by Roberto Mantovani Filho and his wife Andreia when they reportedly met the minister and his family at an airport in Rome. Brazilians would have called Moraes a “bandit, communist and bought”. There is also a suspicion that Moraes’ son would have taken his father’s pain and been physically attacked.

The Federal Police opened an investigation to investigate the case shortly after identifying the Brazilians who participated in the attacks against Moraes and his family. Attorney General Augusto Aras said that the Federal Public Ministry will investigate the case.

The trio of Brazilians can respond to an inquiry for aggression, threat, injury and defamation if the case is proven.
