The three-time surfing world champion, Gabriel Medina, won an unprecedented title this Friday (28). The Brazilian won the Margaret River stage for the first time, in Australia, on the world circuit.
With the victory, Medina rose to seventh place in the ranking and entered the fight for the Top-5 of the Worlds. The top five on the circuit will compete in the WSL Finals, an event that will define the world champion this year, in September, in the United States.
The decision was against the American Griffin Colapinto. Medina received a 9.5 as one of the grades.
Gabriel Medina hadn’t won a WSL stage since 2021, when he won the finals and became world champion for the third time. Remembering that the Brazilian left the sport last year to take care of his mental health, a period that was prolonged by a knee injury.
The leader of this year’s world circuit is another Brazilian: João Chianca. The second place is the also Brazilian and current champion, Filipe Toledo.
