Brazilian Filipe Toledo won this Friday (16th) the title of the El Salvador stage of the World Surfing Tour, on Punta Roca beach, after overcoming the current leader of the world ranking, the North American Griffin Colapinto, by 17, 33 to 12.10 points.
The victory had a special flavor for the current world champion, as he overcame his tormentor in the decision of last year’s stage in El Salvador. “We have met in every final [eles também decidiram a etapa de Sunset Beach, no Havaí, em 2023]. It’s been fun.” declared Filipinho, who dedicated the title to his mother, whose birthday is this Friday: “This is for you, Mom. This is your gift. I love you”.
With the victory in Punta Roca, Filipe Toledo took second place in the world ranking. This was the second stage won by the Brazilian in 2023, after the title in Sunset Beach. Now Filipinho will get ready to fight for the title of the Saquarema stage, in Rio de Janeiro, whose dispute window is between the 23rd of June and the 1st of July.
“We are going to Brazil now, for an event that will be incredible, it will be wonderful. So I ask for your support, so that we can show the whole world, the WSL, the surfers, how good Brazil is and how big the event will be”.
Among the women, the conquest went to the American Caroline Marks. The 21-year-old had a brilliant campaign in El Salvador, beating two world champions, Hawaiian Carissa Moore in the semifinals and Australian Tyler Wright in the final.
