The President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Rosa Weber, announced this Wednesday (12) that the renovation of the court’s headquarters building will be completed next Tuesday. The place was the target of depredation during the coup acts of January 8.
The announcement was made by the minister during the opening of the session. The date was chosen to commemorate the 100 days since the invasion and coincides with the start of the trial of the first 100 complaints filed by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) against those accused of participating in the acts.
When commenting on the damage caused by the coup leaders, Rosa Weber said that the depredation had the opposite effect and helped to strengthen democracy.
“That date, the day of infamy, January 8, which has no equal in the history of this court, must always be remembered so that it never happens again. The vilification of the physical facilities of this court, far from the intended debasement of the institution, produced the opposite effect , as it strengthened national communion around the nuclear principle that enshrines the democratic idea among us,” he said.
The president of the Supreme Court reported that the renovation of the second floor of the headquarters, where the general directorate and the communication advisory are located, will be completed next week. The sections were the hardest hit during the acts.
In March, the renovation of the third floor, which includes the rooms of the court’s presidency, was delivered. Due to the damage caused to works of art and chandeliers, the main hall, which is part of the second floor and is used for reception of authorities, will remain being repaired by restorers of the Supreme Court itself and of federal universities. The plenary, which is located on the ground floor, has been in operation since February 1st.
The Supreme Court scheduled for next week the trial of 100 people denounced for their involvement in the January 8 coup acts.
The trial will be held in the virtual plenary of the Court between Tuesday and Monday of the following week. In the virtual modality, ministers deposit votes electronically and there is no in-person deliberation.
The cases that will be judged concern the first accused who were denounced by the PGR in January and February for participating in the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers.
