Initiative wants to promote the engagement of schools with science

Registration for the Science for All Award is open until July 17th. The action aims to encourage the development of scientific activities in public schools and promote the engagement of students and the school community with science and its applications in education and life.

The award is an initiative of the Research Support Foundation of the State of São Paulo (Fapesp) and the Roberto Marinho Foundation through Canal Futura. Teachers and students from public schools in the state of São Paulo can apply. At this stage of registration, it is enough for the professor to express interest and the other details regarding the registered project must be informed according to the calendar of the public notice.

The Science for All Award includes five categories: Final years of Elementary School (from 6th to 9th grade) of Regular Education; Secondary Education (from 1st to 3rd grade) of Regular Education; Final Years Cycle Elementary School of Youth and Adult Education (EJA); Youth and Adult Education High School Cycle (EJA); High School (from 1st to 3rd grade) of Technical and Vocational High School

In this second edition, the award will select and highlight research projects, in all areas of knowledge, that use scientific methods to propose solutions to concrete problems, related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Organization. Enrolled professors and students will participate in training days in the digital environment of Canal Futura, with guidance on the development of research projects and audiovisual production and will receive certification.

Research projects should identify a concrete problem in the community; formulate hypotheses; review the literature and present intervention proposals, before presenting solutions, inform your results and conclusions in video format. Participation in the award includes the delivery of the written research project, the research report and the audiovisual record on different dates, the last stage being until September 30th.

Assessment

The evaluation of submitted projects will be carried out in three stages. In Stage 1, after the training journey, 100 projects will be selected; in Step 2, the two finalists in each category will be selected and, in Step 3, the five 2023 winners will be selected, one per category. The award ceremony will take place on October 25, at a location to be defined.

Professors and students awarded in each of the categories will have the opportunity to visit a research center supported by FAPESP. Teachers from the winning teams will also receive a notebook.

All videos produced by the awarded teams will be shown in the future on YouTube and on Canal Futura’s social networks.
