Suárez defines once again and Grêmio beats Brasil de Pelotas

The goal looked like it wasn’t going to come out. Even supported by 29,806 fans, Grêmio suffered with the boom and the technical wax set up by Brasil de Pelotas this Wednesday night (25), at the Arena. But whoever has Luis Suárez has a goal. In the 44th minute of the second half, El Pistolero came into action and secured a 1-0 victory for Tricolor over Xavante, for the 2nd round of the Gaucho Championship, maintaining 100% success and the leadership of the competition. Next Sunday, Grêmio will face São José on the synthetic lawn at Passo D’Areia.

The first half was truncated, with many fouls, little creation and a lot of work for the referee. The clearest chance for the home team occurred in the 18th minute: the ball was raised in the area and Bitello headed it to a great save by Marcelo Pitol. Four minutes later, after a corner kick, Kannemann used his head and the ball went very close to the left post.

And that was the end of the creative process of Renato Portaluppi’s team in the first stage. In the last play of the first half, Suárez and Pitol were at odds, had to be restrained, clashed and received a yellow card. At the entrance to the changing rooms, more confusion between the reserve players of both teams.

And the Xavante started the final stage with a fright. In the first minute, Rennan Siqueira took a corner and João Marcus went up alone, but ended up heading out, with danger for goalkeeper Brenno. But in the next move, midfielder Rone lost his mind and hit the cleats on Pepê’s leg and was expelled straight away, leaving the Pelotas team with one less.

From then on it was a confrontation of attack against defense and a show of simulation of injuries, free falls on the lawn and a lot of waxing from the Xavante players. At 13, Carballo crossed, João Marcus played against his own team and Pitol diverted to the bottom line. At 29 minutes it was Ferreirinha’s turn, in a personal move, to kick very close to Pitol’s left corner.

The technical wax and the anti-game practiced by Brazil made the judge add 12 minutes to the normal time. But it wasn’t even necessary. At 44 minutes, Ferreira found Suárez inside the area and the Grêmio top scorer dominated, turned on the marker and kicked it into the back of the net to define the first victory in front of his fans in Gauchão.
