Student athletes seek classification in swimming and futsal in the 44th edition of JEAs

In total, the state network won 191 medals

Manaus (AM) – Tuesday (18) marked the debut of the swimming modality in the 44th edition of the Amazonas School Games (JEAs). On the sixth day of competitions, in addition to swimming that continues until next Thursday (20th), the highlight was also on futsal, which will have the men’s and women’s category finals on the next 22nd.

The first swimming tests were performed by athletes with disabilities. The PCD competitors competed in the crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. Student at Estelita Tapajós State School (EE), para-athlete Adison Vitor, 16, celebrated winning another medal, in his 2nd participation in the JEAs.

“I am an ASD person and I have faced many challenges in my life, both in swimming and everywhere else. I started when I was 9 years old and I was scared. As time went by, I learned the techniques and today I feel better. I want to gain more resistance, through training and health. I am happy with my result.”

shared Adison, stating that, despite having already taken home a medal in the other edition, this is the first gold in the JEAs.

During the competitions, the other athletes will still perform in the freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and medley. According to the coordinator of the competition at JEAs, professor Mike Moraes, the disputes are also qualifying for national competitions.

“Today we started our competition marathon, with the objective of promoting the sport and qualifying for the national stage of the modality, which are the Youth Games, which will take place in Ribeirão Preto (SP), in September”,

highlighted the coordinator.

As for athletes with disabilities, qualifying for national competitions has already taken place, through the 1st School Paralympics of Amazonas (Parajea’s), held in May.

With the initiative of the Secretary of State for Education and School Sports, it was the first time that Paralympic students from Amazonas had a specific competition as a selection for the Brazilian School Paralympics, which take place in Brasília, between August and September of this year.

Futsal

In futsal, Tuesday marked the second games of the 2nd qualifying phase, which precede the semifinals of the competition. The state network continues to be represented in the spotlight, with 19 of the 20 teams classified for this stage of the championship, adding the male and female categories.

Highlight of the selection from Barcelos (distant 399 kilometers from Manaus), made up of students from EE São Francisco de Sales, student Lara Kelly, 17, spoke about the emotion of being in this phase of the JEAs.

“For our race, I think we deserve to be here. We faced a tiring journey, almost a whole day. We lost some teammates at the last minute, but we are standing firm. We are already winners, because last year we didn’t even get past the first phase”,

recalled the student athlete.

Lara’s team won the second match of this new stage by 1-0, against the team from Careiro da Várzea (25 kilometers from Manaus), and qualified for the semifinals of the competition, which will be played on the 21st.

Balance

So far, seven of the 20 modalities of the JEAs have already ended their disputes. In total, the state network won 191 medals in these categories, 141 in Athletics, 13 in Badminton, 7 in 3×3 Basketball, two in Rhythmic Gymnastics, 4 in Table Tennis, 16 in Wrestling and 8 medals in Chess. Of these 191 places on the podium, 58 were gold, 43 silver and 90 bronze.
