Air controllers from the company NAV Brasil, responsible for flight safety at 43 Brazilian airports, withdrew from the strike scheduled for this Monday (9), after suffering a legal setback.

In a preliminary decision, the TST (Superior Labor Court) determined, on Friday (6), that flight controllers who work at NAV Brasil maintain their service, under penalty of a daily fine of R$ 100 thousand to the category union in case of non-compliance.

The suspension of the strike was confirmed to Sheet by the secretary of legal affairs of the SNTPV (National Union of Flight Protection Workers), William França.

The interruption of services would affect large airports, such as Galeão and Santos Dumont, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Cumbica, in Guarulhos (SP) and Viracopos, in Campinas (SP). NAV Brasil operates at airports that serve eight Brazilian capitals and its services have an effect on the entire national airline network.

The strike prevented by the courts is part of the strike announced by the SNTPV, which demands salary recovery, inflation compensation, improvements to the health plan and additional benefits.

Responsible for the court decision, Minister Mauricio José Godinho Delgado says that the suspension planned for next week would result in “irreparable damage”.

The union says it will appeal to the TST to overturn the injunction.

In a note released to the press on Friday (6), NAV Brasil says that it “remains open to dialogue and permanently committed to seeking the well-deserved appreciation of its employees.”

The strike calendar indicates that employees at NAV Brasil must evaluate the company’s responses on Tuesday (10). The schedule still indicated a strike, also from 7 am to 8 am, every day until October 21st.

If the mobilization continues, it is possible that the strike will affect services during the holiday of Brazil’s patron saint, Our Lady of Aparecida, celebrated on the 12th.
