Strike at USP: How is the hiring of teachers? – 09/28/2023 – Education
[ad_1]
After years without hiring new teachers, USP (University of São Paulo) faces the lowest ratio of teachers to students in recent decades, which led to a student strike that has the support of teachers and staff.
The demonstrations call for speed in hiring new teachers, as the rectory proposed to gradually expand the staff over the next four years. In 2022, 879 vacancies were released to be made available in installments over the next four months.
According to the rectory, of these 879 vacancies, 238 have already been filled and 641 still need selection.
After pressure from students, the rectory has already opened up the possibility of bringing forward part of the competitions in units where the situation is more problematic. Hiring, however, can only take place from next year.
Read below what the competitions are like at USP:
1 – Release
Rectory and University Council approve the opening of new vacancies, the university’s highest deliberative body
2 – Notices
Colleges launch competition notices
3 – Registration
In general, competitions provide a deadline of around two months for registration, with the aim of reaching the largest number of candidates
4 – Test
Notices for hiring professors in RDPI (Full Dedication to Teaching and Research Regime), in general, follow the same structure, with:
- written test on the subject for which you will be hired to teach,
- public test of argument and judgment of the memorial (in which, for example, scientific, literary and philosophical production are evaluated; university teaching activity; provision of services to the community; other professional activities; diplomas
- didactic test
Each of the tests and phases has a specific score
5 – Result
At the end of the process, the result is announced by a judging committee from the unit
