‘Stoppages will have a point cut’, says Leite on teachers’ protests

Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) said he will cut the point of teachers who decide to paralyze their activities to pressure the government. The strike movement is a mobilization of the Center for Teachers of the State of RS (Cpers/Union) with the objective of achieving a higher percentage in the salary replacement proposed by the Piratini Palace, which is already being discussed in the Legislative Assembly.
“Stoppages will have the point cut. It took us three years to make a composition in the last episode of stoppage and strike with payments for days stopped. My disposition is not to write about the charts. A day off is lost, it is not worked and we are going to cut the point of those workers who are not working”, said Leite.
“I respect the desire of those who want to earn more, but I need to guarantee the service provided, and the service provided is to guarantee open schools for our children and young people”, concluded the governor.
Leite claims that the Fiscal Responsibility Law prevents the Executive from proposing a greater readjustment. “I would love to be able to give a bigger adjustment, but the fiscal reality is harsh. The State was surprised by a decision at the national level that forced a reduction in rates, which led to a reduction in our revenue. Personnel expense is on top of revenue. If expenditure remained the same and revenue fell, in percentage terms the State went from 48% of personnel expenditure, which is above the prudential limit, limiting the possibility of readjustments to civil servants”, justified the toucan.
The governor’s statement was criticized by the leadership of Cpers. “It’s a pity. The governor leaves out categories with a miserable salary, such as school employees. His proposal is to make retirees pay their readjustment – he will take it out of the irreducible portion and, if there is a readjustment, it will be less than 9, 45%. In the face of all this, the governor tries to shut the mouths of teachers. We repudiate the attitude. This shows that the discourse of valuing education does not materialize”, fired the union president, Helenir Schürer.
