STJD increases Eduardo Bauermann’s sentence for match fixing – News of Brazil

The plenary of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) decided to change the sentences of some of the seven soccer players convicted last month for match-fixing in a betting scheme. The biggest change, decided last Thursday (6), is the penalty for defender Eduardo Bauermann, 27 years old, who previously had only received a suspension for 12 games and will now have to stay 360 days away from the sport, in addition to paying fine of BRL 35 thousand. In other cases, punished athletes only had their fines and suspensions slightly reduced.
The decision of the 4th Disciplinary Commission, in June, had sanctioned the acquittal of Igor Cariús and the condemnation, to some degree, of the other seven players denounced based on the investigations of the Operation Penalidade Máxima, of the Public Ministry of Goiás.
The verdict on Eduardo Bauermann was the one that drew the most attention at the time, as he was denounced twice and even so received the least amount of punishment. In the session that decided to review the defender’s sentence, the auditors asked the CBF for the decision to have an international impact and not be restricted to games in Brazil. Last Monday (3), Bauermann was announced as reinforcement of Alanyaspor (Turkey).
New penalties determined by the STJD:
- Eduardo Bauermann (former Santos) – 360-day suspension and a fine of R$35,000 (before: 12 games).
- Fernando Neto (former Worker) – suspension of 360 days and a fine of R$15,000 (before: 380 days and R$25,000).
- Gabriel Tota (former Juventude) – elimination and fine of R$ 30,000 (no changes).
- Kevin Lomónaco (Red Bull Bragantino): suspension of 360 days and fine of BRL 25 thousand (before: 380 days and BRL 25 thousand).
- Matheus Gomes (Ipatinga): elimination and fine of R$ 10,000 (no changes).
- Moraes (former Juventude): suspension of 720 days and fine of BRL 55 thousand (previously: 760 days and BRL 55 thousand).
- Paulo Miranda (former Juventude): suspension of 720 days and a fine of R$70,000 (previously: 1,000 days and R$105,000).
