STJ denies request from president removed from CBF to return to office – 12/13/2023 – Sports

The STJ (Superior Court of Justice) denied this Wednesday (13) the request made by Ednaldo Rodrigues, removed president of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), to return to office.

The decision was taken by the president of the STJ, Maria Thereza de Assis Moura. She understood that there is no public interest in the CBF’s request and this type of direct appeal to the presidency is not appropriate.

Therefore, according to the minister, the request to the court to suspend the decision of the TJ-RJ (Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro) that removed the director from office is not admissible.

In the request to suspend the dismissal signed by Rodrigues’ legal team, including former minister José Eduardo Martins Cardozo, and addressed to the president of the STJ, they argue that the removal of the president of the CBF puts at risk “the organization of football in the country and its entire economic chain”, which could lead to the suspension of the entity and the “impossible for Brazilian teams and clubs to compete in international competitions”.

The lawyers also requested that, if the suspension was not accepted, that Rodrigues could remain in office to call, within 30 days, new elections.

The decision of the Rio Court that removed the leader from office also required the president of the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice), José Perdiz, to take over the entity in the role of intervenor and call elections within 30 working days.
