The Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided this Thursday (31) to sentence former Senator Fernando Collor for the crimes of passive corruption and money laundering to eight years and ten months in prison, which must be served, initially, in a closed regime.

However, the execution of the sentence is not immediate. The former President of the Republic will be able to await the resources in freedom. Collor is accused in the criminal action of receiving BRL 29.9 million in bribes for irregular contracts with BR Distribuidora between 2010 and 2014.

In addition to the prison sentence, the ministers defined the payment of 90 days fines, each fine day representing five minimum wages. In relation to the crime of criminal association, the Supreme Court considered that there was prescription and the penalty was not applied. The rapporteur, minister Edson Fachin, had suggested that Collor’s sentence be 33 years and 10 months in prison. However, the penalty fell during the definition of dosimetry.

Pedro Paulo Bergamaschi and Luís Pereira Duarte de Amorim were also convicted in the same action. Pedro Paulo received four years and one month in a semi-open regime and Amorim received three years of imprisonment in an open regime.
